Diversity and Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP) Fund
Diversity and Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP) Fund Criteria
The Pathways to Diversity and Inclusion: An Action Plan for Brown University (DIAP) was established to create a more diverse and inclusive community and to ensure that this work — which is essential to fulfilling Brown’s vision for academic excellence — is centered in all aspects of University life.
The DIAP fund was developed to assist departments, centers and institutes as they work to prioritize actions in six areas (“priority areas”) that further Brown’s mission: People, Academic Excellence, Curriculum, Community, Knowledge, and Accountability.
To be considered for DIAP funding, requests must meet the following criteria:
- Requested funds must contribute to at least one of the six priority areas. DIAP-funded events are open to all department/community members;
- Requested funds must align with at least one of the Department, Center, or Institute’s stated DIAP goals;
- Requested funds must be used during the academic year in which they were requested;
- Requests must be for events that take place after funding is awarded, not before or during the application cycle;
- Requests can be made by academic and administrative departments, centers, and institutes;*
- A DIAP Report Form is required for all funded projects within two weeks of the event date. This should include a written narrative as well as any media (photos, video, audio, etc.) that describe the project and its impact on the Brown community;
- Prior recipients of DIAP funds are not eligible for consideration of additional funding until a DIAP Report Form is completed;
- All DIAP funds must be returned to the Office of Diversity and Inclusion if the programming or opportunity for which funds are requested is canceled or postponed to another academic year;
- Preference will be given to new events, initiatives, and programs, with all proposals evaluated according to established review criteria. Requests for recurring events, initiatives or programs will be considered on a case-by-case basis and are contingent upon the availability of funding.
*Applicants should have approval from the director, head, or chair of their department, center, or institute to be considered for DIAP funds.

The Office of Diversity and Inclusion (ODI) does not “sponsor” events and should not be listed as such on any public promotional material. We seek to center your voice, your initiatives, and your efforts through the Diversity and Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP) Fund, and as the executor of these funds, we hope to ensure that DIAP initiatives are empowered and elevated. In enabling these events, our role is limited. ODI hosts and sponsors its own events, which complement DIAP-centered initiatives, and those events are clearly marked as ours.
